If you are still waiting for the famous adult exam, then you probably will not avoid the state graduation from the English language, which consists of an oral exam, essay and didactic test. And what is the didactic test in English?
What is a didactic test?
In general, a didactic test indicates a written exam that aims to objectively assess the mastery of a certain level of subject matter in a selected group of people. How does a didactic test differ from a regular exam? Above all, clear and above all predetermined rules apply to the preparation, evaluation, verification and interpretation of test results.
What is a Language Didactic Test?
If the didactic test is well designed, educators can use it to find out how well the lessons are being taught and how the pupils are doing it. CERMAT representatives are also trying to do a similar thing when preparing a language didactic test, which is the first part of the compulsory state school leaving examination in the English language. The aim is to find out if your knowledge and skills in this field are at least so that you can be a proud holder of the state graduation certificate.
Language Didactic Test (2016)
You have 60 minutes to elaborate a didactic test in English (pupils with admission to the maturitní zkouška examination have increased time to prepare a test according to a report prepared by a school counseling facility). The didactic test consists of closed questions, each with four answers, of which only one is correct. You cannot use any aids when writing a test.
Didactic test – content
You will find various exercises in the didactic test, but most often they are focused on reading excerpts and understanding them. The following types of tasks can be found under the site:
- find mistakes, whether grammatical errors, semantic or eg stylistic
- search and find information in text snippets
- find synonyms or antonyms, contrast, or harmony between words, statements, or other parts of texts
- find words that are or are not in line with standard grammar
- eg select the most appropriate title for a poem snippet
- read and include a text snippet in the correct time period
- to correctly characterize parts of speech, sentence elements or complex sentences
- navigate tables, graphs or diagrams
- arrange paragraphs to create contiguous text
- appropriately include a word or sentence in the text
- correctly identify the nature of the text or determine its purpose
The didactic test also includes literature-related questions. A list of literary genres and authors for the didactic test can be found on the website of your university.
Language Didactic Test – Evaluation
A maximum of 50 points can be obtained in English language test. To pass it successfully, you need to get at least 44%, which means 22 points. The individual marks are then matched by a certain percentage point gain in the test. The intervals are determined as follows:
- Excellent: 100-88%
- Highlights: 74-87%
- Good: 59-73%
- Sufficiently: 44-58%
- Insufficient: 0-43%
Language graduation – final grade
All parts of the English language exam have the same weight, each of them – oral exam, essay and didactic test – is one third of the final grade. To calculate the final grade from the English language, it is sufficient to calculate the arithmetic mean of the individual percentage point profits – add up the individual percentages obtained and divide them by three. You can find the final grade according to the result in the table above.
